As a first-generation immigrant, settlement has never been a single moment, but an ongoing process of becoming. The objects we leave behind, the ones we carry with us, and the new ones we gather along the way quietly reshape who we become.

Over time, memories shift as new surroundings take root. The past remains present, yet it is nourished differently. In this space between what was and what is, identity becomes fluid and layered.

UnSettlement is my attempt to recreate that in-between space — a place where past and present coexist like a dream, where belonging and displacement are felt at the same time.

Reflections

I remember the silence. I remember the crows.
I remember the solitude.

Reflections is a quiet study of that inward space. The images focus on a single figure, fragments of the body, and moments of confrontation between the subject and the camera — as if the photograph itself becomes a witness to the act of facing oneself.

This series grows out of those memories — long periods of quiet when the only sound was the sudden arrival of flocks of crows outside the house where I lived in Tehran. In that stillness I spent much of my time writing and reflecting, asking myself what it means to be human.
